Berwick to Glynde - 11 April 2010

A lovely day for April and 5 of us took out time cycling along the lanes from Berwick to Glynde with a stop at Middle Farm for a cup of char.

An excellent start to the season of rides and I hope to see more of you there in the future.

Hi tony you asked for comments on the benefits of the cycle rides. Here they are from my perspective:

- cycling with companions is much more motivating than doing it on your own;

- the rides stretched my cycling stamina and skills; I would not have gone so far on my own

- the rides are good for over 50s who otherwise would not do enough exercise; the only other organised rides I know of are run by the CTC and the minimum distance is 30 miles which is too much for me. The rides organised by Tony Rowell hit just the right spot - somewhere between 8 and 15 miles; in  that sense these rides were unique and to my knowledge no one else is offering a service focussed on the over 50's who are just getting back into cycling

- the rides gradually stretched us as each subsequent one was longer

- the rides were meticulously planned and executed by Tony Rowell

- I would like the rides to continue on a regular and ongoing basis as I need the motivation of them

- the rides were delightful taking in a range of countryside, a stop for coffee and a look at new parts of the county

long may the rides continue

Hello Tony

I really enjoyed the ride today and meeting a few more people. Thank you for making that possible. I have to confess to feeling a wee bit tired though which means I am out of practice!! I look forward to next Sunday's ride and, hopefully, many more to come.

Regards, June

Hi Tony,

Can't make Friday's ride. Looking forward to another one though!

Hi Tony

Thanks for your message. What sort of ride interests me? Probably exactly like tomorrow's (or perhaps by the time you read this, today's!) to start off with, at least.

I've not been an avid rider for years and years, stupidly, as I do love the activity. I returned from Australia two years ago (and a bit) and the mountain bike I brought with me, while I finally got it reassembled a few months ago, is still yet to be ridden . But the spirit is willing, and every time I see groups such as yours ride past my window I remind myself I'd like to be back in the saddle. I'm a few stone over my correct weight, though, so I expect it will take me a while to get back up to speed.

Unfortunately I've got other commitments tomorrow which will almost certainly prevent me getting along, but I hope I'll make it to the next ride.

Cheers

Tony (too!)
